Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Ruby Slippers' is a small variegated cultivar bred from a hybrid of *H. 'Iwa'*. Its leaves measure 5 inches (12.7 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, featuring medium green margins that contrast with a lighter center.

In the Garden

'Ruby Slippers' is suited to partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and reaches a mature size of approximately 8 to 10 inches in height with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. Its small stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is also suitable for container cultivation due to its compact habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
