Registered in 1982 by K. Anderson, this small hosta cultivar produces green leaves with dark yellow margins. The foliage margins are described as gold in the registration, though the recorded margin color is dark yellow, creating a distinct bicolor effect.

In the Garden

'Hosta Royalty' reaches a mature size of 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as heucheras, ferns, or small sedges. Its compact habit also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
