Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Queen of the Universe' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from open pollination of *H.* 'Pin Stripe Sister'. It is visually distinctive for its medium green, broadly ovate leaves with a wide, flat yellow margin that extends 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5.1 cm) from the leaf edge.
In the Garden
'Queen of the Universe' reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its gold-edged foliage provides contrast against darker green companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
