Overview
Registered in 2015 by L. Reuter and M. Gilligan, this small hosta cultivar is a seedling of *Hosta* 'Miss Susie' from open pollination. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, dull green leaves with greenish-yellow flat margins, red scapes, and a red blush that appears on the upper leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, 'Oh! Susanna' forms an upright clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for small hostas, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its compact size and red stems make it a useful accent when paired with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, though the dull leaf surface may be slightly less appealing to slugs than glossy-leaved cultivars.
