Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Odyssey' is a hybrid of *Hosta ventricosa* that produces a medium-sized clump with upright foliage. Its leaves are dark green with streaked, slightly rippled margins, exhibiting a slight sheen on the upper surface and a very shiny underside, with rounded leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Odyssey' forms a clump 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its upright habit and variegated foliage provide textural contrast. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its medium size makes it appropriate for border fronts or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges; 'Odyssey' shows typical hosta susceptibility to slugs and deer, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in affected gardens.
