Overview
Registered in 1999 by an unknown breeder, 'Dark Nebula' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with streaked margins. The foliage measures 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 11 vein pairs, a dull surface on both sides, and a flat base, giving the plant a subdued, textural presence in the shade garden.
In the Garden
'Dark Nebula' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it reaches medium size, with leaves spanning roughly 8 by 7 inches, and the plant spreads to a comparable width. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials, and its moderate growth rate makes it appropriate for border fronts or woodland settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, so monitor regularly; deer are also potential pests in areas where they are common.
