Overview
Registered in 2009 from a seedling of unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'My Julie' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its heavily corrugated, blue-green to dark green foliage with broad, flat, yellow margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, moderately cupped, and bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
'My Julie' reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), with a slow growth rate and a dense, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers contrast with the yellow margins; in deeper shade, the margin color may shift toward chartreuse. The roundish, cupped, and deeply rugose foliage provides strong textural contrast alongside finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the thick, corrugated leaves can still be susceptible to damage in moist conditions.
