Overview
Registered in 1996, *Hosta* 'Muffie' is a miniature cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Bravo' as the pod parent, with unknown pollen parentage. It is visually distinctive for its compact mound of medium green leaves edged in creamy white to white margins, with slightly rippled leaf surfaces and a tapered base.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, 'Muffie' forms a tidy, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges. Its miniature size makes it an excellent choice for containers, trough gardens, or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Muffie' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
