Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Koryu' registered in 2004, 'Midori-no-ya' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with medium green margins and a flat, non-puckered blade. Unlike its parent, this sport lacks the characteristic swollen veins, giving the foliage a smoother, more uniform appearance.

In the Garden

Reaching approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, this slow-to-moderate grower forms a compact mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its narrow leaves and tidy habit complement fine-textured companions such as ferns, heucheras, or small grasses. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for troughs or mixed shade containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage on the foliage.
