Overview
Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Main Event' is a medium-sized sport of *H.* 'Liberty' with unknown pollen parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the bright golden yellow, slightly rippled margin that frames a green leaf center, creating strong contrast on a mound-like plant.
In the Garden
'Main Event' reaches 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, forming a moderate-growing, dense mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and is well-suited to the middle of a border or as a specimen in a shade garden. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as ferns or dark-leaved heucheras, complement its bright variegation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs and deer may browse hostas, the moderately corrugated, dull-surfaced leaves of 'Main Event' are somewhat less appealing than smoother cultivars.
