H. ‘Lillie’

Overview

Registered in 1999 by C. Lantis and subsequently registered by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Lillie' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are the light green leaves with heavy rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a very shiny underside, creating a pronounced textural contrast.

In the Garden

'Hillie' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in height and 11 inches (27.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. As a miniature hosta, it is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, and performs well in containers. It thrives in typical hosta-growing zones in partial to full shade; pairing with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella* complements its diminutive scale.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and appropriate control measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
