Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Masquerade' registered in 1999, 'Venessa' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its variegated leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside. The leaves are 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, with five vein pairs and a tapered base, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate and a mound-like habit. It is suitable for shaded borders, rock gardens, or container culture due to its miniature size; companions include other small hostas, ferns, or woodland perennials. Green scapes 16 to 18 inches (40.6 to 45.7 cm) tall bear typical hosta flowers in summer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring; like most hostas, 'Venessa' is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
