Overview
Registered in 1999 by Paul Ruh, this small hosta cultivar forms a compact mound of variegated foliage. Its medium green leaves bear slightly rippled margins and are notably dull on the upper surface while very shiny beneath, a combination that distinguishes it from many small-leaved hostas.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), 'Lilac Love' suits the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its moderate growth rate and mound-like habit make it a reliable filler among small ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry spells; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be needed in areas where these pests are prevalent.
