Overview

Registered in 2003 by Lakeside Gardens, this small hosta cultivar is a seedling of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Black Mane' with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its upright, fast-growing habit and narrow, ovate leaves with very dark green, slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

Reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, 'Lakeside Storm Watch' is well suited to the front of a border, rock garden, or container. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its dark green leaf margins contrast effectively with lighter green or gold-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Gold Standard' or *Hosta* 'June'. Its compact size and upright form make it a good choice for small spaces or trough gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
