Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Hidden Cove', registered in 2006, 'Hideout' is a small cultivar distinguished by its lance-shaped leaves with pure white centers and dark green, slightly rippled margins. The leaves exhibit a moderate twist, and the scapes are pinkish, rising 10 to 12 inches (25.4 to 30.5 cm) above the mound.

In the Garden

'Hideout' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height and 11 inches (27.9 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. Its small size and distinctive variegation make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Hideout' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
