Overview

Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Harvest Dawn' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. sieboldii* 'Paxton's Original'. Its variegated foliage features dark green, slightly rippled leaf margins with a dull upper surface and a slightly shiny underside, set on tapered, narrow leaves.

In the Garden

'Harvest Dawn' reaches a mature diameter of 17 inches (43.2 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its compact size makes it suitable for rock gardens, woodland edges, or container plantings. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella* for textural contrast.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs and deer may browse young foliage, the plant's small size and moderate vigor allow for recovery with standard protective measures.
