Overview

Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, 'Green Valley' is a small hosta of unknown parentage. Its leaves are green with gold margins, a color combination that provides clear contrast in the garden.

In the Garden

'Green Valley' reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 36 inches (91.4 cm), forming a compact, rounded mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, edging, or container plantings. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. Like most hostas, 'Green Valley' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for slugs in damp conditions and consider fencing or repellents where deer are present.
