Overview
Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, this small hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'August Moon'. It is distinguished by its green leaves with chartreuse to gold margins, a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 15 inches (38.1 cm) wide, with leaves 4 inches (10.2 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide bearing 5 to 6 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'China Doll' performs best in partial to full shade, where its gold margins remain most vivid. Its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing.
