Overview

Registered in 1995, *Hosta* 'Estrellita' is a miniature cultivar resulting from a cross between an F-1 seedling of *H.* 'Emerald Ripple' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Subcrocea' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its small, dull green leaves edged with clear yellow smooth margins, forming a compact mound.

In the Garden

'Estrellita' reaches a mature size of approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5.1 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border due to its miniature stature. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it can be paired with other diminutive shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Estrellita' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
