Overview

Registered in 1994, 'Dim Sum' is a miniature hybrid derived from *Hosta longipes* var. *latifolia*. The cultivar is distinguished by its small, mound-like habit and green leaves with yellow-gold, slightly rippled margins; the leaf surface is dull above and slightly shiny beneath.

In the Garden

'Dim Sum' matures to a compact mound 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter, with leaves averaging 1.63 inches (4.1 cm) long and 0.88 inches (2.2 cm) wide. Its miniature size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small woodland perennials; it is also suitable for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Dim Sum' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed.
