Overview
Registered in 2005 by J. Goaters and registered by P. & J. Ruh, 'Devon Discovery' is a small, mound-forming hosta with variegated foliage derived from an unknown sport parent. Its distinctive leaves are lance-shaped with dark green, slightly rippled margins and a lightly cupped, moderately folded form, topped with a slightly shiny surface.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 10.5 inches (26.7 cm), forming a low, compact mound with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials. Its small size and lance-leaf habit make it an excellent choice for container plantings or front-of-border positions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
