Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of an unidentified parent, *Hosta* 'Christmas Eve' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its creamy white leaf centers bordered by dark green, flat margins. The center coloration is notably non-viridescent, meaning it does not green up as the season progresses, maintaining a stable white-to-cream appearance.

In the Garden

'Christmas Eve' forms an upright, mounding clump reaching approximately 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 28 inches (70.1 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the white centers remain most vivid and do not scorch. The ovate leaves, measuring 9.1 inches (23.1 cm) long and 4.1 inches (10.4 cm) wide with 5 to 7 vein pairs, have a dull upper surface and a slightly shiny underside. This cultivar pairs well with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras, and its medium size suits the middle to front of a shaded border.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Christmas Eve' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
