Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard' registered in 2005, 'Chante's Dark Emerald' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaf centers with golden yellow margins that exhibit green speckling. The broadly ovate, wavy leaves have flat margins and a dull texture on both surfaces, creating a muted but striking contrast.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in shaded beds. The green scapes rise 22 to 36 inches (55.9 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage and bear lavender flowers in summer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for typical hosta-growing zones.
