Overview

Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Caravan' is a medium-sized sport of *H. 'Fat Cat'* (pod parent; pollen parent unknown). Its distinguishing feature is a green leaf blade with broad, irregular gold margins, borne in a dense, mound-like clump.

In the Garden

'Caravan' forms a moderate-growing mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 23 inches (58.4 cm) wide, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in partial to full shade. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves with cordate bases provide good substance and texture; pairing with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras creates contrast. Its green scapes reach 24 inches (61 cm) and bear good-quality flowers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Caravan' may require protection from slugs and deer in typical hosta-growing zones.
