Overview
Registered in 1986 by P. Aden, 'White Charger' is a large, variegated hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of a dark green leaf margin with a white center, a pattern that holds well through the season.
In the Garden
Reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height, 'White Charger' is suited to the middle or back of a mixed border. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white leaf centers remain bright without scorching. The substantial leaves and upright scapes make it a good companion for ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'White Charger' is attractive to slugs and deer, so protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
