Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Halcyon' registered in 1991 by R. Keller, 'Valerie's Vanity' is a small variegated cultivar distinguished by dark green leaf margins surrounding a lighter center. Its cordate leaf base and compact habit contribute to a tidy, well-proportioned appearance.

In the Garden

'Valerie's Vanity' reaches approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, forming a low, spreading clump suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
