Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard' registered in 1998, 'Sam-Tina Gold' is a small variegated cultivar distinguished by light green leaf margins surrounding a gold center, a reverse of the typical gold-margined pattern. The leaves are slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with nine pairs of veins and a rounded base.

In the Garden

This compact hosta forms a mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold leaf centers remain brightest, and is well-suited to small borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials complement its scale and coloration.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
