Overview

Registered in 2005, 'Robust Giant' is a large, mound-forming hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, formerly known as *Fortunei Robusta*. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, cupped leaves with light to medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull surface on both sides, supported by a notably heavy, glaucous green scape.

In the Garden

'Robust Giant' reaches a mature spread of approximately 31 inches (78.7 cm) and a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial, corrugated foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its tall scapes, reaching 35 to 46 inches (88.9 to 116.8 cm), make it suitable for mid-border positions.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though standard slug control is advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
