Overview

Registered in 1990 by U. Syre-Herz, 'Purple Robe' is a miniature hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its narrow, lance-shaped green leaves with yellow-green margins and three to four vein pairs, combined with a compact, low-growing habit.

In the Garden

This miniature hosta reaches approximately 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and spreads to 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as heucheras or ferns. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so preventive measures are advisable in gardens where these pests are common.
