Overview

Registered in 2005 by originator E. Smith and registrants P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Purbeck Mist' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from self-pollinated 'Tardiana' parentage. It is visually distinguished by its compact blue-green foliage, cupped and wavy ovate leaves with flat bases, and a fine white hairline along the leaf margins.

In the Garden

'Purbeck Mist' reaches a mature spread of approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) and a height of 10.5 inches (26.7 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its miniature stature. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or dwarf *Astilbe*; its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor regularly and apply barriers or repellents as needed.
