Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Puddles and Bumps' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Ogon Tachi'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Lily Pad'* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its very shiny, dark green leaf surface marked by deep, separate corrugated areas that create a textured, bump-like appearance against the flat margins.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its glossy foliage contrasts well with finer-textured ferns or broad-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. The green scapes, reaching 16 to 30 inches (40.6 to 76.2 cm), bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, though the heavily corrugated leaf surface may offer some resistance to minor pest pressure.
