Overview

Registered in 2010 by an unknown breeder, 'Pucker Up' is a large hosta cultivar distinguished by its intense leaf corrugation (rugosity) and a seasonal color shift from green to yellow. The nearly round, heavily textured leaves are green with greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins, dull on the upper surface and slightly shiny beneath.

In the Garden

'Pucker Up' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its bold, corrugated foliage provides strong textural contrast alongside finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The 18- to 20-inch (45.7–50.8 cm) light green scapes bear flowers in midsummer, though the primary ornamental value lies in the foliage.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pucker Up' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in affected gardens.
