Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Just So', 'Puck' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with a thin glaucous bloom beneath, moderate corrugation, and cupped, broadly ovate form with cordate bases. Its compact dimensions—9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in diameter—and moderate growth rate make it a tidy specimen for foreground planting.
In the Garden
'Puck' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color and the glaucous underside remains undisturbed by direct sun. At maturity, it forms a dense, rounded clump roughly 1.5 feet wide and 9 inches tall, suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants with contrasting leaf textures, such as ferns or *Heuchera*, complement its muted tones.
Care Notes
Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Puck' is moderately susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in high-pressure areas. It is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
