Overview

Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sky Dancer', 'Private Dancer' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with heavily rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaf substance is notably thick, and the plant produces scapes reaching 14 to 16 inches in height.

In the Garden

'Private Dancer' reaches approximately 11 inches in height and spreads to 17 inches in diameter, making it suitable for the front of a border, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, and its compact size and thick leaves allow it to tolerate slightly more sun than many blue-leaved hostas. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials, and is an excellent choice for container culture due to its moderate growth rate and small stature.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance provides moderate resistance to slug damage, though standard hosta pest precautions are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
