Overview

Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Princess WuWu' is a giant sport of *Hosta* 'Empress Wu' of unknown pollen parentage. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its substantial mound of pale yellow-green leaves that mature to a blue-gray coloration, reaching 76 inches (193 cm) in diameter and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Princess WuWu' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, where its large leaves maintain optimal color. Its giant size (leaves up to 15 inches long and 12 inches wide) makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a dramatic ground cover in large garden beds. Companion plants should be chosen to complement its substantial scale, such as ferns or astilbes, and it is not recommended for container cultivation due to its size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
