Overview

Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Ryan's Big One', 'Princess Anastasia' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with intense gold margins. The leaf blades are broadly cordate, measuring 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with slightly rippled margins and a very shiny upper surface; the 14 to 16 pairs of veins are clearly visible.

In the Garden

'Princess Anastasia' reaches a mature diameter of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing clump suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large, variegated leaves provide strong contrast when paired with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras. The scapes rise 14 to 18 inches (35.6 to 45.7 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring or barriers.
