Overview
Registered in 1995 by J. & J. Wilkins, this giant sport of a *Hosta* 'William Lachman' seedling is distinguished by its large, blue-green leaves with wide, yellow-gold margins. The leaves exhibit a slightly rippled margin and a glaucous bloom on the underside, contributing to a bold, two-toned appearance.
In the Garden
'Prima Donna' forms a substantial, mound-like clump reaching 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height, with a notably fast growth rate. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in partial to full shade, where it can be paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials. The tall scapes, reaching 40 to 49 inches (101.6 to 124.5 cm), bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
