Overview
Registered in 2010 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Prairie Lightning', 'Prairie Spring' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with bright yellow, flat margins and large white flowers. The ovate leaves, measuring 10 inches long by 6 inches wide, have a dull upper surface and 15 to 16 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 14 inches in height and 28 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Scapes rise 22 to 24 inches above the foliage, bearing large white flowers of pleasing shape. It tolerates more sun than many hostas, making it suitable for brighter positions in the garden where it can be paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size suits border fronts or mixed shade beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, and plants perform best in typical hosta-growing zones with well-drained soil.
