Overview

Registered in 2002, 'Powderpuff' is a small hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Halcyon' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Blue Dimples' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is an intense, powdery blue leaf color that holds very well throughout the growing season, with a glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.

In the Garden

'Powderpuff' reaches a mature diameter of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its compact size and slow-to-medium growth rate make it well-suited for container cultivation. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
