Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Drop' registered in 1988 by C. Falstad, 'Pooh Bear' is a small hosta distinguished by its bright golden yellow-green leaves with contrasting gold margins. The leaf center displays a vivid chartreuse tone, while the irregular marginal band deepens to a richer gold as the season progresses.
In the Garden
'Pooh Bear' forms a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. Its small stature and bright foliage pair well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*. It performs best in partial to full shade, as excessive sun may scorch the thin leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and snails, and note that deer may browse the foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
