Overview
Registered in 1993 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Polished Jade' is a small-sized variegated cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with rippled margins and rounded leaf bases. The leaves reach 7 inches (17.8 cm) in length and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in width, with seven pairs of veins, and the plant forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Polished Jade' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, and its small stature makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. The plant's rounded, rippled leaves provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars. Its mature spread of approximately 2 feet (61 cm) allows for placement in small garden spaces or as an edging plant along shaded pathways.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the rippled leaf margins may offer slight resistance to slug feeding.
