Overview

Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Garnet Prince', 'Polish Prince' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with a variable white margin. The broadly ovate, flat leaves measure 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with seven vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface. The white margin ranges from 0.125 to 0.375 inches (0.3 to 1.0 cm) wide and remains flat. The plant is virtually identical to its parent in leaf shape and red stems, but the white margin provides a clear visual distinction.

In the Garden

'Polish Prince' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. Green scapes rise 30 to 40 inches (76.2 to 101.6 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain stable without scorching. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Polish Prince' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
