Overview

Registered in 2015 from an open pollination of *Hosta* 'Rosedale Black Hole', 'Pluto' is a large, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its intensely powder-blue spring foliage and deeply corrugated, nearly round leaves. The leaf blade is flat-margined, heavily cupped, and lightly folded, with a dull, blue-green surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Pluto' reaches a mature clump diameter of 33 inches (83.8 cm) and a height of 22 inches (55.9 cm), with upright leaf habit. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The bold, textured foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade perennials that contrast with its blue tones. Its large size makes it appropriate as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Pluto' may require protection from slugs and deer, though its corrugated surface may offer some resistance.
