Overview

Registered in 2011, 'Plum Pudding' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar originating from a cross between *Hosta* 'One Man's Treasure' (pod parent) and an unnamed seedling (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, dark green leaves with heavy substance, slightly rippled margins, and purple petioles that extend upward into the leaf blade on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Plum Pudding' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its substantial leaves provide good textural contrast alongside finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The purple scapes, rising 20 to 22 inches (50.8 to 55.9 cm), bear flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage and take protective measures if necessary.
