Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Cadet', 'Plebe's Blues' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with gold margins and unstable streaks of varying yellow shades. The ovate leaves, measuring 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) long and 2.13 inches (5.4 cm) wide, exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, slightly rippled margins, and a light twist. The plant produces green scapes 11 to 16 inches (27.9 to 40.6 cm) tall, and is notable for being fertile.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and height of 8.5 inches (21.6 cm), 'Plebe's Blues' is suited to the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color is most pronounced. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other small hostas with contrasting foliage colors.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrent measures are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
