Overview

Registered in 2007 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Spilt Milk', 'Pistache' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual fog-like light green center variegation, bordered by narrow, flat green margins. The broadly ovate, blue-green leaves exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and are lightly corrugated, with eight vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Pistache' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12.6 inches (32.0 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 22.4 to 28.3 inches (56.9 to 71.9 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where its subtle center variegation remains most pronounced. The medium size suits mixed shade borders or woodland gardens, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other fine-textured perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pistache' benefits from slug and deer protection, particularly in moist, shaded sites.
