Overview
Registered in 1990 by P. Banyai, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Blue Boy'. Its most distinctive feature is the dark blue-green foliage with one to two large undulations along the leaf margins, combined with a cordate leaf base.
In the Garden
'Hinky' reaches a mature height of 15 inches (38.1 cm) with a spread typical of small hostas, making it suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is standard for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size also makes it appropriate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be subject to slug and deer damage, though the thick, undulating leaf margins may offer some resistance to minor pest pressure.
