Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Pillow Talk' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Pin Stripe Sister' (pod parent; pollen parent unknown) distinguished by its nearly round, medium green leaves with broad, creamy white margins and a neat, dense mound habit. The leaf blades measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs, a cordate base, and moderately wavy edges; the margins are 0.5 inch (1.3 cm) wide and slightly rippled, while both leaf surfaces are dull.
In the Garden
'Pillow Talk' forms a symmetrical, mound-like clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its compact, rounded shape makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed shade beds. The green scapes rise 24 to 26 inches (61.0 to 66.0 cm) above the foliage; companion plants might include ferns or shade-tolerant perennials that complement its variegated foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pillow Talk' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers or repellents are recommended.
