Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Indigo', 'Picasso' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves edged with narrow, chartreuse margins. The leaf surface carries a glaucous bloom on both sides, and the margins are flat, measuring 0.2 to 0.3 cm wide.
In the Garden
'Picasso' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color remains most pronounced. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as golden sedges or fine-textured ferns, complement its restrained variegation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
