Overview

Registered in 1995, 'Picadello' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its medium blue-green leaves with creamy white margins, glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and slightly rippled leaf edges.

In the Garden

This compact, mound-forming hosta reaches 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with other small woodland perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or tiarellas. Its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Picadello' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in some locations.
